Florida artist Kevin Grass depicts the shopping frenzy of Black Friday in this work, which was a huge hit at the SPECTRUM Miami 2016 art fair and the original painting sold there. Many visitors asked for print reproductions of the work and now they are finally available!
In this image, American shoppers stampede on the biggest shopping day of the year to get bargains the day after Thanksgiving when they had just given thanks for their blessings the day before. The irony of this is shown with a sense of humor, as the artist includes touches of shoppers camping out in a tent, so they can snag such items as large television sets -- things they probably already own. The composition of this piece is partially indebted to Théodore Géricault's The Raft of the Medusa painting. To see the fully symbolism for the piece, toggle over to the "original" instead of the "print" and see the symbolism sheet included with the details of the original work. There, Kevin explains all of the iconography of Black Friday in full detail.
