Florida artist Kevin Grass explores apathy in young people in this Realism piece, Out to Lunch. The figures are so self-involved that, instead of enjoying a beautiful lunch together in a fine dining establishment, they would even miss noticing a nuclear explosion in the background. This work was loosely inspired by the kinds of interactions the artist observed among some of his college students. A few stood out in that they seemed to be blessed with beauty and material rewards, and instead of enjoying these advantages, they appeared to squander them on inconsequential things, sacrificing the possibility of deeper human connection in the process. This image is infused with a sense of humor. It is supposed to remind viewers to stop and count their blessings.
